Detect tampered and deepfake Vietnam CCCD (Citizen ID)
The Vietnam citizen identity card, the CCCD and since July 2024 the Căn cước, is issued by the Ministry of Public Security to citizens aged fourteen and above and anchors banking and eKYC. Its twelve-digit number encodes a province code, a gender and century digit, and the birth year, so a number that contradicts the printed sex or date of birth was assembled.

What a genuine Vietnam CCCD contains
The number runs twelve digits: three for the province or birth-country code, one for gender and century, two for the birth year, and six random digits. The fourth digit is zero for men and one for women born in the 1900s, two and three for the 2000s. The card prints name, date of birth, sex, nationality, photograph, and issue and expiry dates, with a QR code, chip, and, on the 2024 template, an MRZ line on the back.
Several designs are legitimate: barcode-only cards, chip CCCDs, and the 2024 Căn cước, which moved residence and birth-registration to the back. Older card types ceased validity at the start of 2025, so layout must fit the stated issue date. Province codes can change after administrative mergers, so the analysis leans on the gender, century, and year digits.
How Vietnam CCCD forgeries are made
Gender and century digit
The fourth digit encodes sex and century, with zero and one for the 1900s and two and three for the 2000s. A digit contradicting the printed sex or birth century shows the fields do not belong together.
Birth-year digits
Digits five and six are the last two digits of the birth year. Comparing them with the printed date of birth catches assembled cards at the number level.
Length and character rules
The number must be exactly twelve digits with no other characters. There is no check digit, so length and the encoded digits carry the structural test.
Layout against issue date
A card whose layout belongs to the 2024 template but whose issue date falls before July 2024 contradicts the issuing timeline.
Photo, QR, and data patching
Substituted portraits and edited lines leave cut-line edges and font passes, while a QR or chip area drawn as a flat graphic suggests a reprint.
What TamperCheck checks on a Vietnam CCCD
TamperCheck runs 200+ forensic checks across three layers and returns a risk score from 0 to 100 with plain-English findings tied to specific regions of the document. These three carry the most weight on this document class.
Portrait substitution and face-swap analysis
The document is isolated from whatever it was photographed on, then the portrait region is assessed against the card surface around it. A pasted or generated face rarely matches the substrate it was placed onto.
Barcode and QR payload comparison
Encoded payloads are decoded and compared against the human-readable values printed alongside them. Editing the visible text without re-encoding the barcode is a common and highly detectable mistake.
Date and validity consistency
Issue, expiry, and period dates are checked against one another and against the file's own creation metadata, which catches backdating and validity extension.
And many more checks
The three above are the layers that carry the most weight on a Vietnam CCCD. Every upload runs the full suite of 200+ checks regardless of document class, spanning file structure and metadata, pixel-level forensics, font and text rendering, optical and print characteristics, provenance signals, AI-generation signatures, and many more checks.
Who verifies a Vietnam CCCD, and why
Vietnamese banks, e-wallets, and eKYC platforms. In each case the document is being used to unlock money, access, or a legal status, which is exactly what makes it worth forging.
How to verify a Vietnam CCCD in 4 steps
Photograph the document
Capture the front and back flat at full resolution so the number, diacritics, and QR region survive close analysis.
Decode the number
Read the fourth digit for sex and century and digits five and six for birth year, then compare them with the printed sex and date of birth.
Match layout to date
Check that the card layout and the QR and chip regions fit the issue date and the card generation it implies.
Run a forensic check on the file
TamperCheck runs 200+ forensic checks including number decoding and patch detection, returning a risk score from 0 to 100 with findings tied to specific regions of the image.
Frequently asked questions
What does the Vietnam CCCD number encode?
Twelve digits: a province or country code, a gender and century digit, the last two digits of the birth year, and six random digits. There is no check digit.
Why does the card layout differ between holders?
Barcode-only cards, chip CCCDs, and the 2024 Căn cước are all legitimate, and the 2024 template moved residence and birth-registration details to the back. Layout must fit the issue date.
Is the old CMND still valid?
Older identity cards ceased validity on 1 January 2025, though they appear in historical files. A recent submission relying on one is worth a closer look.
How does TamperCheck verify a Vietnam CCCD?
TamperCheck decodes the gender, century, and year digits against the printed fields, compares layout with the issue date, and inspects the portrait, QR region, and text for patching. Uploads run through a single REST endpoint, are processed ephemerally and not stored, and findings tie to specific regions.
TamperCheck analyses vietnam cccd (citizen id) uploads with a hybrid forensic and AI pipeline tuned for this document class. Upload endpoints accept PDF and common image formats; class is inferred automatically. See the API documentation for authentication, async jobs, and webhooks.
