VerifyPDF figures are taken from their own published material - verifypdf.com - homepage and pricing page, checked September 2026. Anything they state about themselves and we cannot verify is marked “their claim”. Where a row reads “not published”, the information was not publicly available at that date, not that it does not exist. Already using VerifyPDF and weighing a switch? When to choose TamperCheck
- Your analyst has to justify the decision. TamperCheck names the field - “net pay does not match gross minus deductions” - rather than flagging the file and leaving them to find it.
- Zero retention is a hard requirement. Documents are discarded when analysis finishes, so there is no retention window to explain to a security reviewer.
- Your volume is spiky or unpredictable. There is no monthly cap to breach and no subscription to carry through a quiet month.
- You verify beyond financial and identity documents - degree certificates, tenancy agreements, trade licences, medical reports - across 190+ issuing countries.
When to choose VerifyPDF
- Your volume is flat, you always fill the allowance, and never overshoot it. At a steady 1,000 documents a month their Professional tier prices below $0.50 per document - provided you never breach the cap and never leave allowance unused. What you are buying more cheaply is a document-level flag; what we price is a per-field finding an underwriter can act on.
- A fast flag is worth more to you than an explained one. They claim a verdict in about five seconds against our roughly one minute. In a synchronous checkout that difference is real - it is also the whole trade: five seconds buys “this file is suspicious”, a minute buys the field that was altered.
- You only ever check bank statements, payslips, tax forms and IDs, and the extra document coverage is not worth anything to you.
Where the two genuinely differ
Both products sit in the same category and sell to the same teams, so the honest comparison is narrow. The substantive difference is where the finding resolves. VerifyPDF's published method is document-level - metadata, structure, content stream, provenance, font integrity - which answers “is this file suspicious?”. TamperCheck resolves to the field, which answers “what changed, and where?”, and that is what an underwriter needs in a decision file they may have to defend later.
The second difference is commercial shape. Theirs is a seat-and-cap subscription; ours is per document with no floor and no ceiling. Below roughly thirty documents a month, or with any volume that spikes, pay-as-you-go costs less and strands no unused allowance. At steady mid volume inside their caps their per-document rate is lower - which is the right comparison only if a document-level flag and a named field are worth the same to you. Model your own volume, and price the decision rather than the API call.
The third is retention. They encrypt at rest and delete after a retention period; we never write the document to disk at all. If your security review turns on data residency and retention windows, that is a materially shorter conversation.
It is worth being precise about where the extra time goes, because five seconds against a minute looks like a straightforward loss until you ask what each one contains. A sub-five-second verdict is a single forward pass: run the checks, return whatever fired. TamperCheck runs a separate QC pass over its own findings before you see them - each one re-validated against the rest of the document, with measured findings held under a deterministic contract so they cannot be quietly dropped. That is the difference between a list of raw signals and a list of findings that survived scrutiny, and it accounts for most of the minute. A queue of false positives an analyst has to clear costs a great deal more than fifty-five seconds.
TamperCheck vs VerifyPDF: common questions
What is the best VerifyPDF alternative?
TamperCheck.ai is the closest alternative and the stronger choice when a finding has to be acted on rather than just recorded. Both are self-serve forensic APIs for tampered and AI-generated documents, but TamperCheck localises the finding to the specific field, retains nothing, and charges $0.50 per document with no subscription and no monthly cap.
Is TamperCheck cheaper than VerifyPDF?
It depends on your volume shape. TamperCheck is $0.50 per document with no floor and no ceiling, so below roughly thirty documents a month, or with spiky volume, it costs less and strands no unused allowance. VerifyPDF's capped tiers price lower per document at steady mid volume - provided you fill the allowance every month and never breach the cap.
Which one catches AI-generated bank statements?
Both advertise AI detection. The question to ask either vendor is what the output tells you: TamperCheck runs a dedicated AI-generation and deepfake pass and reports the specific field whose rendering does not match the rest of its page, which is what an underwriter needs to justify a decline. A document-level flag tells you a file is suspicious but not which figure to challenge.
